Poetic Music by Italian and Austro-German Masters
The very first in our series of CDs, this recording celebrates the rich sound of Renaissance recorder consorts, which flourished at European courts in the early sixteenth century. Originally used to double the human voice, recorders come in a wide range of sizes, from sopranino to bass. By the mid-sixteenth century, they began to perform independently, forming purely instrumental ensembles. On this CD, a consort of plucked instruments enriches the sound, bringing dances, fantasias, madrigals and sonatas vividly to life. Guest musicians include Israel Golani (lute), Johanna Seitz & Gunnhildur Einarsdóttir (harps), and Elisabeth Seitz (salterio).

Music by Schein, Scheidt, Schmelzer, De Rore, Palestrina and others

“The members of The Royal Wind Music clearly enjoy an excellent rapport and form a remarkably unified ensemble. Their programme is appealing from the outset, and the band is marvelous in both seventeenth-century German repertoire and Renaissance vocal polyphony.” – Véronique Lafargue, review of Alla Dolce Ombra, Goldberg Magazine – Spain, 2004
